G-Track Detailed Feature Description Summary:
- Backup Selected File Type(s) – Users can select one or more file type groups. File type groups are a comma separated list of file extensions. G-Track backs up all files on the user’s hard drive with an extension in the selected file type group. Users with proper permissions can create their own user defined file types or file type groups.
- Backup Selected Directory (ies) – Users can select one or more folders in their file hierarchy. G-Track backs up all visible files contained in the selected folder(s). By default G-Track will not backup hidden files.
- DoD Class Encryption – G-Track uses the 256 bit AES encryption method. AES is the Advanced Encryption Standard adopted and approved by the Department of Defense. All communication to and from any computer device using G-Track is encrypted with AES prior to being transmitted over a secure HTTPS socket.
- Incremental backup support – G-Track conserves bandwidth usage and system resources by backing up the original file once and thereafter only backup the changes for each file. Every time a file changes G-Track compares the latest version against the prior version copies only the changes and uploads those changes to the remote data center for archival.
- Theft Recovery/Protection (Notebook) – When a user has lost a G-Track-protected machine, he can request that machine be tracked for recovery. A user can initiate a recovery process through a web or phone request. Upon receiving a recovery request, G-Track personnel cause the G-Track server to capture data from the G-Track client that could aid law-enforcement officials in identifying the whereabouts of the missing machine, and identity of the machine’s current user. Tracking data can include, but is not limited to:
- IP addresses under which the missing machine connects to the Internet
- Internet service provider through which the machine is connected
- Usernames and credentials used in network, or software service logins
- Email addresses and email authentication credentials by the machine while missing.
- Frequently Changing File(s) Support – To prevent G-Track from overburdening system performance by attempting to upload large, frequently changing files every time they change, users can specify file types (by file extension), and a frequency on which such files should be uploaded. Furthermore, users can specify that such backups will be initiated only after their computer has idled for more than a number of minutes the user specifies.
- Large and Open/Locked File Support – G-Track will backup files that are currently in use or locked by another program. This is a huge advantage because many backup solutions require that you close any open databases or files before they can backup the file. G-Track uses special Microsoft processes that safely and reliably allow G-Track to read and copy open or locked files marked for backup.
- Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista Support – These are the current versions of operating systems that we support.
- Document Retention Policy Enforcement – With G-Track an Administrator can specify how long deleted files are retained and which file types or folders are:
- Hidden – not visible in users’ backup configuration window
- Prohibited – not available for selection by users
- Allowed – not selected by default, but selectable at users option
- Suggested – selected by default, and un-selectable at users option
- Required – selected by default, and not un-selectable by users.
- Automatic Upgrade/Update Support – Each time a new release or feature is available each copy of G-Track is automatically upgraded to the latest release.
- Account Suspension/Deactivation Support – Administrators can remotely suspend or deactivate any user or device.
- As of Date/Time Restore-Recovery Option – When restoring a file or set of files from the G-Track web interface user’s and Administrators can specify a specific date and time to restore the selection and G-Track will restore the selected files as they were stored on the user’s device at that date and time in history. This is very useful in the case of audits, virus infections, or legal discovery.
- Custom File Set Restore – When restoring with G-Track you can make any file selections you like for restoration rather than being forced to restore the entire backup set.
- Continuous Real Time Backup – Also called Continuous data protection (CDP) or continuous backup or real-time backup, refers to backup of computer data by automatically saving a copy of every change made to that data, essentially capturing every version of the data that the user saves. It allows the user or administrator to restore data to any point in time.
- Admin Access Rights Model – Administrators have access to all devices and backup sets created for that primary account. Additionally, Administrators can assign privilege levels, with the following capabilities being optionally assignable to a user::
- Web-access to backed up files
- Password reset
- Web-based file restore
- Ability to remotely delete original files
- Ability to report a missing computer, and invoke G-Track tracking
- Ability to permanently delete all historical versions of backed up files
- Ability to change available filetype groups, and whether they are hidden, prohibited, allowed, suggested, or required for backup by all users.
- Ability to define folder locations that are hidden, prohibited, allowed, suggested, or required for backup by all users.
- Ability to create other users and grant or deny their privileges
- Setup Reminder Alerts – G-Track will send the user and the Administrator a reminder email if the user has not setup and configured G-Track on their machine.
- Remote Delete/Destroy Notifications – The Administrator is sent a notification when a user requests for their computer to be remotely destroyed. If the user is configured to have authority to activate remote destroy instructions without Administrative approval the Administrator is notified of the destruction initiation sequence.
- Temporarily Suspend Backups – In the case that the user is on a low bandwidth or slow internet connection they can temporarily suspend G-Track from backing up changes. G-Track will resume backing up file changes once the user specifies or the device is rebooted.
- CPU and Bandwidth Throttling – Users can specify how much CPU or computing power and bandwidth G-Track uses when the user is actively using the device.
- Password Reset & Recovery Support – Users can retrieve or reset their own passwords using the G-Track website.
- Add Custom File Types to Application – If the user or Administrator wants to backup specific filetypes no matter where they reside on the device they can create and select for backup their own filetype definitions.
- Single device multi-user support – G-Track supports multiple users on a single device, each user can have their own backup definition and G-Track will ensure that all changes on that device are backed up properly without compromising the underlying Windows file access security.
- Remote Web Access to Backup Set – Users can view and access their backed up files via a website. With web-access, users can download one or more files of a selected version or point in time from their backup for access or restoring of lost file.
- Remote Destroy Hard Drive – Users can choose to destroy their machine’s hard drive. This approach not only overwrites original data, but also overwrites the disk drive’s boot sector, rendering it inoperable.
- Remote Delete Backup Files – Users can choose to delete those files backed up by G-Track on a remote machine. These are the files for which the user has a known ability to restore through G-Track. Deleted files are overwritten repeatedly, to ensure against forensic analysis of the hard drive.
- File History Access – Users can access any version of any backed up file either within the client’s backup explorer or via their web accessible account.
- Historical Usage/Billing Reports – Authorized users can view historical usage and billing reports that specify their usage. Administrators and primary account holders can view the entire organizations usage and billing reports.
- Optional Read-Only Web Access – Administrators can provision accounts to only have read-only access to their remote data set. This prohibits users from being able to permanently delete files from their backup set.
- Optional Web Access – Administrators can provision accounts without remote or web access.
- Require Admin Confirmation to Destroy/Delete – Administrators can configure G-Track so that any remote delete or destroy sequence initiation must be confirmed and further authorized by an account Administrator.
- Set Prohibited & Hidden File Type(s) – Administrators can set organizational account policies that prohibit certain filetypes from being backed up, a common example is prohibiting users from backing up music or video files.
- Set Prohibited & Hidden Directory(ies) – Administrators can set organizational account policies that prohibit certain directories from being backed up, a common example is prohibiting users from backing up My Music or My Pictures directories.
- Set Required & Suggested File Type(s) – Administrators can require users to backup certain filetypes an example would be to require “Documents” to be backed up.
- Set Required & Suggested Directory(ies) – Administrators can require users to backup specific directories an example would be to require “My Documents” to be backed up.
- Optional Access to Individual Accounts – When setting up your account we can optionally configure G-Track to disallow Administrator access to individual accounts for privacy or other regulatory reasons.
- Revise Existing File Type(s) Definitions – Administrators can redefine the standard file type definitions for all provisioned accounts. If you do not agree or our current file type definitions do not meet your user configuration or business needs simply redefine the definition of Documents or Spreadsheets or any other file type definition within the system and the new definition you set will become the default for your users.
- Configure Alerts Settings – Administrators can specify the frequency and interval for each available system alert.
- Comprehensive email traffic recorder & backup – This added feature ensures that every incoming and outgoing email is archived offsite.
- Optional Dead-Man Destruction Switch (Notebooks) – Additional protection and instructions that initiate predetermined and prescribed destruction sequence if a thief never connects to the internet. The current remote destroy and delete feature requires that a thief connect the computer to the internet in order for us to send the destruction order to the computer.
- Optionally schedule backups – This will allow users or Administrators to only allow G-Track to backup files between certain hours of operation, some IT staff prefer this method to maximize available bandwidth during normal business hours. Since G-Track uses an incremental backup method and bandwidth throttling we feel this feature will only be used in areas where internet connection speeds are extremely poor.
- Pass Phrase Encryption Support – A passphrase is a sequence of words or other text used to control access to a computer system, program or data. A passphrase is similar to a password in usage, but is generally longer for added security. Passphrases add security but if you forget the passphrase no one can recover your data.
- Add File to Hard Drive via Web – Users can log on to their remote backup set and upload a file to the directory – doing so will initiate G-Track to download that file to the same location the user uploaded it to the next time the device connects to the internet.
- Optional File Download Guest Access – Users can provide someone one time authenticated remote access to a file or set of files.
- Smart Phone Remote Destroy – Provide a G-Track program with remote destroy capabilities for smart phones i.e. BlackBerry, Treo, iPhone, et cetera.
- Optional Permanent Delete Rights – Optionally allow Administrators to provision accounts the ability to permanently delete backed up files marked as deleted.
- DoD Delete Specification Compliance – Users can choose to electronically shred the machine’s hard drive using a method approved by the Department of Defense for classified information. This approach overwrites the entire drive seven times to prevent data recovery from the physical drive.
- User activity monitoring dashboard – Administrators can at a glance determine who and when each device last connected and uploaded a file.
- Asset and License Management – G-Track will track each devices serial number, original value, eBay auction value, depreciation, and active software licenses installed.
- Bulk User Import – A utility that enables Administrators to import new users in mass using a comma separated values file.
